The big news of the month was the failure of Silicon Valley Bank, leading many to fear that a repeat of 2008 is imminent. While the failure of SVB was deemed an isolated incident, that hasn’t stopped investment markets from reacting unfavorably to the recent banking industry uncertainty.
Additionally, persistent inflation remains a problem and is the Fed’s top concern as we creep further into the new year. A recession also appears likely, but given the current economic landscape, we don’t anticipate it being particularly long or deep.
