How is Your Health Insurance Affected?

by Rich Schlueter

Responding to improved technology and the efforts of individuals to improve their own health, life insurance carriers are providing new opportunities for individuals that previously may have found that their circumstances made the cost of purchasing coverage unaffordable. Some of these circumstances may have even caused the insurance carrier to deny coverage altogether.

While many ailments are being scrutinized differently by insurance carriers today, cancer survivors, particularly prostate and breast cancer survivors might be experiencing the greatest change in the way life insurance carriers look at these cases. Certain prostate and breast cancer survivors may qualify for standard rates, sometimes shortly after recovery.

Other ailments that would traditionally cause an increase in cost may also qualify for standard rates if there are enough positive attributes associated with the individual.

Smokers and tobacco users with rare exception pay a significantly higher rate than do non-tobacco users. However, there are stop-smoking incentive programs available that can allow a current smoker to buy life insurance at the same rate as a standard non-smoker. As an example, one such program will provide a smoker with non-smoker rates for the first three years of the contract. If after three years the insured is no longer a smoker they will continue to receive non-smoker rates.

If you are thinking about life insurance but have not moved forward because of pre-conceived notions or past experiences we encourage you to call Rich Schlueter to discuss your case. Your ability to obtain life insurance at favorable rates may be more likely than you think.
