The Importance of Saving 

Is your retirement savings plan keeping up with your long-term goals and objectives? If not, you might need to change your attitude on saving and investing. And you may be able to do it without making a significant change in your lifestyle.

Saving just a few more dollars each week could have a dramatic effect on the amount you'll save over the long term. Saving just an extra $200 a month ($2,400 a year) can add tens of thousands of dollars to your retirement nest egg over the long term through the power of compounding.

The first step is to develop a savings mentality. That means putting your savings first and your material needs second. In other words, as the saying goes, "the secret of financial success is to spend what you have left after saving rather than saving what you have left after spending."

  How Long Do You Need to Keep Your Tax Documents?

Tax day came and went this year, a few days later than normal (April 18 instead of the usual April 15), and our tax records got put away in the filing cabinets, hopefully never having to see the light of day again. A big question is how long do those records need to be kept and why do you need to keep them?

According to the IRS, you should keep your records for three years, unless: (1) you do not report income that you should report and it is more than 25% of the gross income shown on your return; (2) you file a fraudulent return; or (3) you don't file a return at all.

  Building Awareness of the Female Workforce
Gender Gap

A survey administered by the Minnesota Council on Foundations found that women make up 50.6% of the state's workforce. Another survey, from St. Catherine University, found that women hold only 16.3% of executive officer positions in Minnesota's 100 largest publicly held firms. This month we take a high-level look at women in business leadership roles and, as the opening lines imply, why there seems to be such a large gap in females holding executive positions.
